Be a Peter- Respond to Action

As we this about Good Friday and Easter, my mind is on Peter.  More specifically, my mind is on how Jesus treated Peter.

Lets look at the before, the during and the after.

BEFORE: Peter denies knowing Jesus three times before the crucifixion (John 18)
16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in. 17 Then the slave-girl who kept the door said to Peter, “You are not also one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.”

25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You are not also one of His disciples, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.” 26 One of the slaves of the high priest, being a relative of the one whose ear Peter cut off, *said, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?” 27 Peter then denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed.
During: Jesus rises from the dead and an angel has a message for Peter (Mark 16:7)

“But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’”
I love how the angel singled out Peter.  Do you know God does the same for you and me?  Not in a bad way like remembering the bad things we have done and holding them over our heads.  Rather, He calls us by name.  He tells me that no matter what I did before, He still wants to have a relationship with me.  I have a feeling the angel had it, on special orders, to make sure Peter knew Jesus was alive, and was looking for Him.

After:  Peter’s response. (Luke 24:10-12)

“Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. 11 But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.”

The disciples couldn’t believe what the women were saying!  They thought it was nonsense!  But not Peter.  Do you see his response? He took off for the tomb!  Could it be true?  Do I get a 4th chance after denying my Savior 3 times?

He did and Jesus asked him to take care of His sheep.
You do too.  What is God asking you to do?  Take some time this weekend to listen.  And then do what Peter did – Respond in action!
