Merry Christmas!

“But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart” – Luke 2:19

I love reading this verse every Christmas.  What must Mary have been thinking as she held God in her hands?  What did she observe as this perfect little boy grew into a man?
I don’t know about you, but around Christmas time, I like to do what Mary did. I enjoy treasuring things going on around me and pondering them in my heart.  Here are a few treasures and ponderings.
– My kids love the Veggie Tales story ‘St. Nicholas’.  They love seeing ‘the original Santa Claus’ sneaking around his town in Greece and giving gifts to people in need at night.  So a few weeks ago, Nathan had run out of money in his ‘globe’ (the bank where he puts his offering money).  Anna heard about this and wanted to do something to help. So, when Nathan was taking a bath, my sweet daughter got money out of her own piggy bank (not her globe, for that was already empty), and she snuck into his room and dropped a handful of coins into Nathan’s globe.  Anna and I decided she was St. Nicholas and she said that she didn’t want to tell that him she had put the money in the globe.
-We just got back from a trip to see my Grandma in Pittsburgh. Along the way we stopped at one of my favorite sandwich shops – Quiznos.  As the lady was making my sandwich, God prompted me a number of times to tell her what a great job she was doing and to tell her thank you for making my sandwich.  It was awkward to think about so I didn’t do anything.  I got back in the car and drove 10 miles to a place Leah could get lunch.  She went inside and I pulled out my phone and called Quiznos.  God kept prompting me, and I wasn’t going to ignore Him any longer.  My kids were in the backseat, listening to this, and when I got off the phone we talked about why I made that call.  The next night, we got some food from another family favorite – Chick Fil A.  We brought it back to our hotel room and Nathan excitedly said, “Hey we need to call them and thank them for the great food.”  So I dialed and he spoke.  I’m pretty sure Nathan made the girl’s night as he talked about how thankful he was for their service and food.
-God puts people in our lives like this everyday.  Take some time to ponder your daily routine, and as you go into this special week, look for chances to encourage people in ways that will allow them to see the Joy and Hope that is inside of you because of Jesus.
Merry Christmas my friends!
