Kids change your lives.
For my family this week, a sick kid changed our life for a day and a half.
Nathan had a fever on Tuesday, so he stayed home from school. Leah and I had our 6 ‘school-time hours’ planned for that Tuesday, and very little of it involved being at home. But when your kid is sick, you adjust, and work from home.
A sick kid makes us change our habits.
A sick (sinful) self makes us do the same, if we want to honor Christ.
We make changes to our lives to eliminate the sickness, and heal.
This idea of life-change seemed to be on the forefront of Jesus mind. He was always asking people to change!
He told the woman caught in adultery to “Go and sin no more.” (John 8:11)
He asked some fisherman to leave their business saying, “Come, follow me. I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)
In talking with some of the religious leaders, Jesus said, “For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.” (Matthew 21:32).
His life is summed up in what appears to be His first command when He officially began His ministry.
“From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” (Matthew 4:17)
Are you sick? What do you need to change right now, to live a life more pleasing to God, and for a more peace-filled for you?
