Points of Life – How BIG is your God?

There’s nothing like an hour with a bunch of 4, 5 and 6-year olds to increase your faith.

Once a month I help with my kids’ classes at church and I just love witnessing the childlike faith that Jesus praises in Mark 10.

This month, I had my faith challenged by these sweet kids during song time.  Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs I get to sing with them.

My God is so big, so strong and so mighty there’s nothing my God cannot do.

The mountains are His, the valleys are His, the stars are His handiwork too.

In a day and age when people forget about God, much less how big He really is, I found these words to be a refreshing reminder.  But the message was driven home by the way those kids would sing.
One time, they had to whisper the words so you felt an awe and reverence for this great and mighty God.
Then right after that, we all screamed it as loud as we could!
MY GOD IS SO BIG, SO STRONG AND SO MIGHTY THERE’S NOTHING MY GOD CANNOT DO! THE MOUNTAINS ARE HIS, THE VALLEYS ARE HIS, THE STARS ARE HIS HANDIWORK TOO! MY GOD IS SO BIG, SO STRONG AND SO MIGHTY THERE’S NOTHING MY GOD CANNOT DO.

WOW!

Just typing those truths in CAPS makes me feel better.  When we were screaming it, I truly could sense a shift in my heart and mind.  I wasn’t really the center of my universe, but it was God.  He is so big! He is so mighty! There truly is nothing that he cannot do!

We don’t need to scream it for Him to hear us, though I can’t help but believe He smiles when He hears His children shouting out praise.  We need to shout, for our good – to remind our fickle hearts a truth that shapes the way we live on a daily basis.

So go down in the basement, or outside, or get your kids together and shout it out!

You will feel better, but more importantly, your heart will once again grasp on to that truth that our God is a great and mighty God who hasn’t given up on His creation. He walks with us and guides us on this journey, called life.
