Points of Life – Our Father

This week is busy, to say the least.  Sunday was the first of 15 consecutive days where I am doing some kind of public speaking, leading a group, or broadcasting sports.  I woke up Sunday morning with a number of things to get done before our 2nd of three FCA leadership training sessions that was slated for 2 p.m. that afternoon.    My plan was to wake up early (which I did), run a few errands, and then get back in time to help get the kids ready for church.

Everything was right on track until I saw my sweet 5-year-old daughter standing in the doorway.  She had just woken up and in a sweet sleepy voice, asked “Will you cuddle with me?”

Instantly, only one thing mattered.  Even though it may add stress and ‘deadline pressure’, I had to put off the work that needed done, and spend those precious moments with my little girl.

Isn’t that the heart of a Father?

Isn’t that the heart of our Father in Heaven?  How much does He love us?  Psalm 23:6 says, “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.”

Do you see that word pursue?  It jumped out at me.  God’s love pursues us. It’s more than just a casual acquaintance. God will stop at nothing to have a relationship with us, with you.  And He pursues us with goodness and unfailing love.

As my daughter and I cuddled, you know what she did?  She went and got her notebook and started writing all the people in her life that she is thankful for.

Our hearts do the same thing when we spend time with our Father. We see life as a blessing and value the people around us.  He gives us a heart for those that are hurting and nudges us in their direction.

So when life is busy (When is it not?), and you feel a whisper from your Father, asking if you will stop and spend time with Him, i pray you remember Anna.  You will find yourself more focused on what you have to do that day, and more importantly, with whom you are supposed to help.
