My car was beeping. My seat belt was buckled and I was on my way to Meijer. Why was it beeping? The light on the dashboard told me why.
The person in my passenger seat hadn’t buckled. Except there was one problem with that. There was no passenger. There was a 25 pound box of Bibles.
At first I thought about pushing the box to the floor, so the beeping would stop.
But then something profound occurred to me. There was someone sitting in that seat.
2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;”
God speaks to us through the Bible, so in essence, His voice was sitting right next to me. Messages on how to live our lives, and be productive members of society, Tips on how to love those that matters to us, as well as those that are a nuisance. A book full of ways to live a fulfilled life, and be assured of a spot in Heaven.
Wow. Why don’t I pour over it like my son Nathan does. He is just learning to read, and yet he always has his FCA ‘All In’ Bible open. He yearns to hear me read the red words. After we go through a passage, he asks questions about the meaning and we apply it to his 5-year-old life. And those stories do apply to his life, just like they apply to my 35-year-old life and your life as well.
“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
My prayer for you, as we approach 2015, is my prayer for me. I want to be like Nathan. I want to live our Proverbs 2:4-5.
“If you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God.”
