My son turns 7 today. It’s 11:31am and for the first time all morning, I am allowing myself the chance to remember. Those emotions are flooding back into my mind and my heart of what it was like that day he was born. I’m remembering the tension of waiting for papers to be signed the next day to release custody of this precious little kid into our care from his birth mom. But more than that, I’m thinking about the impact Nathan Andres has already had on this world in 6 short years of life.
I tweeted about how proud I am of this little boy who is becoming (or perhaps already is) a man after God’s own heart.
I smile every time I see one of my friends ‘like’ that tweet, but one particular story stands out above the rest.
My friend Aryin heard Nathan’s adoption story when he was at Liberty-Benton high school, attending the school’s first-ever FCA meeting four or five years ago. Nathan’s story prompted Aryin to give his life to Jesus that day; to be adopted into the Kingdom of God. A couple years later, Aryin found himself at UNOH and became a part of the FCA group that we had just started there. Then Aryin brought his roommates and his friends to FCA and they began surrendering their lives to Jesus. Now those guys are the leaders of that group, and many of them now work here at TV-44 on our Sports crew.
Talk about the impact a little boy has had on an entire community!
God is so creative in how he works and I love moments like this, where I can just sit back and let the tears fall down my face in awe of our Lord. Isaiah 55:8-9 says it so well:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Happy Birthday Nathan! Thank you for how you are making an impact on my life, and those around me.
